 BIGFOOT FOUNDATION REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO IT EDUCATION

Cebu City, Philippines -- Bigfoot Asia Pacific Foundation is reaffirming its commitment to the advancement of IT education by providing additional funding for teacher education, books and maintenance.

This, after the successful implementation of its Php10 million IT Learning Program through the establishment of the 22 Bigfoot IT Learning Centers for students in remote public elementary and high schools in Cebu and Negros Oriental in 2003.

Launched in December 2002, the first phase of Bigfoot’s IT Learning Center program included the construction of the Bigfoot Learning Centers, purchase of computer equipment and the training of the teachers on the basics of computers, all completed in 2003. The program has made it possible for the beneficiary schools to integrate computer learning into their curriculum and heighten the enthusiasm of students in information technology.

Training

In April, Bigfoot conducted a follow-through training for the teachers on the different techniques and teaching methodologies to help them effectively teach IT to students. This September, Php600,000 worth of computer books will be delivered and also slated this year is the special training for selected high school students on computer applications. The foundation has also committed to the maintenance of donated structures and computer equipment.

The 22 beneficiaries include Babag, Villadolid and Tuyom Elementary Schools in Carcar; Matutinao and Sibugay Elementary Schools in Badian; Maya National High School; Malingin and Logon National High Schools in Daanbantayan; Balirong National High School and Langtad High School in Naga; Arcelo Memorial National High School in Liloan; Compostela National High School; Bullogan, Tubod and Cotcotan Elementary Schools, Dumanjug and Cogon National High Schools in Dumanjug; Malibog and Sirao Elementary Schools in Cebu City; Valencia, Negros Oriental; and the YLAC Free School in Cebu City.
